Working on an Editorial Calendar

25 March 2009 One Comment

One thing that I’m learning as an up-and-coming blogger is that it’s sometimes difficult to really figure out what you want to write about every day.  From reading a number of blogs about blogging, I’ve learned that setting up an editorial calendar is the way to go to ensure that I always have material ready to post each day.

In working on my calendar, I’m putting down general categories for certain days first…  For example, the first Monday of each month might be an earnings report (all the big boys do it and it seems like a good way to bring people back to read in the future to see how I’m doing) and every Wednesday might be put down as a review post.

Of course, you have to leave some flexibility for spur of the moment posting or the like, but I’m thinking my new editorial calendar is going to make my blogging life a little easier, especially as I add new niche blogs to my blogging schedule.

The calendar idea works Travis, as long as you have material “in hand” If you don’t it’s a problem, because if Monday is review post day, and you have a brilliant article you want to write on, say, affiliate marketing, you either have to “blow off” your calendar, or write something uninspired.
SO my advice is go for it, but always have one article in each section ready to go for when that day arrives.
Cheers
Mike
